Physical Appearance:
Standing at only 5’ 4”, Amissa, or Missi as her friends call her, isn’t that intimidating in appearance. With a slender frame and a weight of 120, Amissa almost seems to be too delicate a person to be an aspiring Jedi padawan. Looks can be so deceiving. Hidden beneath her neat tunic and robes is a toned and lightly muscled body. Agile and flexible, Amissa is capable of some pretty amazing acrobatics, one reason she’s so formidable with a lightsaber. If she were a more aggressive person, Amissa would probably be an expert of the more aggressive and offensive Form V with her lightsaber than the more passive and defensive Form III.
Set beneath slender but expressive eyebrows (Amissa is queen of the eyebrow lift), Amissa’s eyes almost seem to have a hard time knowing what color they’re supposed to be. It’s not that her eyes change color, it’s just that they contain so many that even Amissa doesn’t know what to call them. When Amissa wears different colors different parts of her eyes are highlighted, but they never actually change color. A mixture of brown, grey, green and gold that isn’t really hazel, Amissa’s eyes are startling at first to most people. And it’s not just the color that makes them startling; it’s the sharp, piercing gaze that Amissa levels at each person her eyes fall upon. A few have commented that it felt like she was staring straight at their soul.
There is no mistaking the color of Amissa’s hair though, for it is jet black, the complete absence of color. The color of a starless night, Amissa’s hair is smooth, sleek, and straight as a rod. If Amissa were a vain sort of person she’d bemoan the fact her hair is so straight. If she tried she’d find that her hair completely fails to hold curls or waves of any sort. But Amissa was raised at the Jedi Temple, she does not believe in such frivolous things. Usually Amissa can be found wearing her hair down or in a functional braid or ponytail. No fancy ribbons or hair jewels for this young woman.
Personality:
Focused Amissa is, but only on details. In a quick battle, Amissa has the advantage. She can sense every detail around her and pick out the important and pertinent ones. But in the big picture? There Amissa doesn’t always have the vision. She has trouble understanding how some little act can change the course of all things.
Amissa lives in the here and now, and that is probably one of her greatest assets and greatest flaws. Amissa can walk into a room, walk out, walk back in an hour later and notice the changes made, if she were to think about it. In battle she can sense through the Force the subtle movements of her opponents and therefore predict their next move. But the big picture, of a battle, of time? Amissa cannot see this. And in this Amissa is as of yet unable to See through the Force through long periods of time.
Since she was raised from infancy at the Jedi Temple, Amissa also has a high level of respect for her superiors and is extremely loyal to her Master and to those her Master holds loyalty to, such as the Jedi Council. Amissa has a very honest and honorable nature. She is frank and open with the truth, in all matters. However, she isn’t always conscious of other’s feelings. While she understands that the truth can sometimes hurt, she finds herself unable to temper the truths she finds she must often tell.
History:
Born on the planet of Alderaan, Amissa was the third child of Saira Razanur and Yuri Razanur, the Prince and Princess of the planet. Her parents rejoiced. Their two other children were boys and Saira in particular desired for a female child. However, there was a note of sorrow as well. For Amissa had been a twin, but the second child had died shortly after being born. Amissa however, was strong and her bright eyes and strongly waving fists comforted her parents that they would not lose the other child. The only problem was... Amissa wasn’t crying. The midwife had given the child the traditional smack to start her breathing, but while the breath was taken, not a sound issued from the child. Saira and Yuri were worried, but the midwife assured them it was probably just the shock from her twin’s death. It would pass with time and with careful care from her parents.
But Amissa was never to know the luxurious and comfortable life of an Alderaan princess. Instead, about a month after the birth of the child, a Jedi Sentinel arrived at the palace, asking if there had been a recent birth. Why yes, the Royal family had just been blessed with a daughter at long last. Though the Jedi could see just how happy the couple was with the child, he requested if he could test the child’s midichlorine levels. Warily the Royal couple consented, remembering the times the planet had called on the Jedis in times of need. Amissa was tested and showed sufficient midichlorine levels to be removed to the Jedi Temple.
Saira was extremely reluctant to let their soundless child go. But Yuri spoke to her and convinced her of the wisdom of sending their daughter to the Jedi Order. The Jedi had some of the greatest healers in the galaxy, they’d be able to get Amissa to talk. Finally Saira agreed. The Jedi offered what comforting words he could to the Royal family, then bundled up the babe and transported her back to Coruscant and the Jedi Temple. From then on, Amissa was raised in the way of the Jedi, abstaining from person possessions and affections.
As a youngling, Amissa showed great promise of becoming a very talented Jedi. She proved to be quite talented with her training saber and even learned to transmit the Force physically before the other younglings in her group. The only problem was that Amissa had never spoken. Fearing the child might be dumb, despite her obvious closeness with the Force, one of the Jedis attempted to teach Amissa a hand language. She learned it. Some of the other younglings were instructed in the hand language as well, for there wasn’t time enough it to teach all of the instructors (children learn considerably quicker than adults after all).
Most of the Jedi Masters attributed Amissa’s silence as a repercussive shock from the death of her twin. It had been determined that the death of the twin was what had brought the Jedi Sentinel to Alderaan so soon after the birth, and it’s quite possible the infant Amissa was so greatly traumatized by sensing her twin’s death through the Force the she simply never developed the mental functions to speak. Some of the Jedi Masters, though, believed that Amissa was quite capable of speech and was simply choosing to not speak. Why she would do that, they couldn’t determine.
Because of her inability to speak, or indecision as some thought, many Jedi masters passed Amissa by as a potential padawan. As the other younglings around her were chosen and the remaining children in her group dwindled, Amissa began to draw away from the others, spending more and more time on her own. The year before her 13th birthday it was difficult to tell where the young woman was at any given time if she wasn't at lessons. She could be in the library, the gardens, the infirmery, the dormitories, the hanger, just about anywhere and seemingly at random. What was happening though was that Amissa was trying to decide where she would go if she wasn't chosen by her next birthday.
Certainly not the medical corps though, for that was one task she was not gifted in at all. And the agriculture corps? No, she couldn't see herself there either, as she wasn't particularly talented there. She was reasonably skilled at flying, but couldn't imagine just fixing the ships for the rest of her life and not flying them. In truth, the thought of never having her own lightsaber pained her, as she knew that she was best at that, at weilding a lightsaber, even it if was only a training one. As the day grew nearer, Amissa began to wonder wildly whether the Jedi would allow her to return to Alderaan and her parents if she was not selected. True, Amissa would greatly miss the Jedi, but surely her parents, whomever they were, would welcome her back.
Had Amissa known it was her not speaking that was making the Jedi Masters wary of choosing her, she might have spoken. For Amissa could speak and did so to her best friend Indira Lakshmi when they were completely alone, and Indira had sworn not to tell anyone else. Indira had been the first child to learn the hand language along with Amissa and the two quickly became close friends. At first they only used the hand language, but one day Indira sang a song she’d found in the Archives, enchanting Amissa completely. When Indira was done singing Amissa suddenly spoke, begging Indira to teach her to sing like that. And so the two friends would sit together in their special spot in the gardens and swap songs they heard and found. While everyone agrees Indira has the most beautiful voice, Amissa’s voice is quite sweet.
In fact, it was Amissa’s singing that caught the attention of the woman that would become her master, Aella Camillus. Though Indira was younger than Amissa by almost a year, she was chosen as a padawan to one of the Healer Masters, Tara Saraswati, about a week before Amissa’s 13th birthday. Lonely for her friend and slightly fearful for her own future, Amissa didn’t check the garden before retreating to her and Indira’s spot a few days after her friend was chosen. A few minutes later Aella felt impressed by the Force to go to the gardens. As she slowly paced the pebbled paths, Aella heard a sad voice lifting in song. After listening and following the voice for a while, Aella knew she’d found her padawan.
Now, five years later, Amissa and Aella have formed a strong, close bond. Considerably more talkative now, Amissa has also taught Aella some of the hand language she used as a child. After Amissa becoming proficient in Form III, Aella began to help her padawan develop a type of Form X, though instead of using two regular length light sabers, Amissa uses either two short lightsabers or a short and long lightsaber. Her piloting has also improved, though Aella remains the better pilot of the two. And despite her talent with the lightsaber, Amissa hasn’t had any luck with learning healing.
Any other special features we need to know about? Not only is Amissa an extremely skilled practicioner of Form III: Soresu lightsaber combat, she is also learning Form X: Niman, using two light sabers. Though instead of another full size light saber, Amissa prefers to use a short lightsaber daggar style or two short lightsabers. Reasonably skilled starfighter pilot. Completely awful healer though.
